About Bamboo!

I have been reading about the properties that bamboo hold. From a book called  Future Fashion white papers.

'From a production standpoint, bamboo is more efficient than trees. This grass continuously sends up new shoots, making it unnecessary to replant. Moreover, unlike trees, which can take up to 25 years to mature, it is ready to harvest after fours years. Compared to trees, it does a superior job of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and one stand of bamboo releases 35 percent more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.Of course, we don't want to replace all trees with bamboo. By substituting bamboo for trees in our products, we can help save native forests from destruction.

Bamboo fibre has many of the physical properties that you see in cotton, and some more that you might wish you saw in cotton. For instance, it is antibacterial and has low absobency; it is hypoallergenic and offers UV protection; it is incredibly soft and it sheds dirt well. In addition, bamboo cultivation taxes the environment far less than cotton. Notoriously, conventional cotton plants get doused with chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Bamboo needs none. Cotton fields that are not in rotation require fertilizers. Bamboo thrives in impoverished soil. Cotton is thirsty. Bamboo roots hold soil tight, retaining water in the watershed; furthermore, they mitigate water pollution du to high nitrogen consumption.'

Bamboo Material - Why?

Bamboo is a sustainable fibre as it doesn't require much water to grow, it can grow up to one metre per day, it has antibactieral properties. The bamboo plant is also a great source of oxygen. The bamboo plant is not classified as organic, although there are no chemicals used to grow it, making it an even more appealing product when considering environmental impact.
Bamboo material comes in many different forms, such as woven satins, twills and knits in jersey, interlock. It has a very silky and soft hand feel.

Why should you care about wearing organic Cotton?

Why should you care about buying and wearing organic cotton? Well, did you know that conventional cotton (not organic) is grown with chemicals and the crops are sprayed with chemicals to keep away pests and disease? Many of the agents used to spray cotton were originally developed in World War II as nerve gases. And you might say "It's not as if I eat it" well indirectly you do, because it's oil can most likely be found in your junk found and the cotton seed is fed to our livestock, our poultry whose eggs we eat and to our dairy cattle whose milk we drink!
I thought you would like to have this knowledge and be aware. I was shocked to find this out. I have been doing a lot of research on the fashion industry and why it works to be sustainable.

Liz Disler is about to launch

Hi everyone!!!
We are very excited to say that Liz Disler is launching it's first sustainable and organic sleepwear/loungewear range, name Forever And A Day very soon.

You will only be able to buy online as we believe this is a greener approach.
We will keep you informed and updated on our progress.

Liz Disler and how it all started

Elizabeth Disler started the Liz Disler sustainable fashion range last year.
Her vision is that the environment and people live in harmony. Therefore this inspired her to design a range that lessons theimpact on the environment, by using luxurious fabrics that are either sustainable and/or organic.

The range is made from fabric that uses no chemicals in the growing of the fibre and the clothing production is made locally. The fabricused in the range comes from carbon neutral businesses. Some pieces are undyed and left natural. All of these components gives your skin and body the benefit of breathing free in the garment, freedom from the toxins and synthetic fertilisers (chemicals) that are inside the fibres from conventional growing methods.

Sleeping time is a time when we are in one of our most relaxed states, where we are absorbing energy, so we thought, what a better time to wear natural clothing than when you are sleeping? So we created the ‘Forever And A Day’ sleep and loungewear range. A range that is natural and allows your skin to rejuvenate and breath freely, giving your body health.

Liz Disler is also working alongside other designers and fashion industry experts to create a sustainable fashion industry code of practice, to put standards in place, so that we can have goals and progress in the area of the environment and fashion.
